Solar cooking - convenient or not??

Now of course solar cooking is nothing new, but why is it not more used - even in the north? Or why is biogas not more used? or why is “this and that” not more used??? well you can keep asking yourself why “this and that” is not or has not been done before. In order to make it work, that is order to develop a sustainable world where we all have access to a decent amount of “MATERIALISTIC CONVENIENCE” we need to look at a lot of things in RADICALLY DIFFERENT ways. And we need to be open to do things in new and most of the time very exiting and believe me or not often also very healthy and inexpensive ways. Solar cooking is one of them - so instead of writing more have a look at the video I have done here and feel free to come with comments etc. about whether this is appropriate or convenient in for MODERN LIVING. I think it is and I hope seriously to see some RADICAL SUSTAINABLE INNOVATION from Panasonic integrating SOLAR in some of all their products - the possibilities are endless and incredibly important to do, not only for the planet but as what Panasonic apparently already has realized - for business too. So please feel free to watch my little contribution to CONVENIENT NEW FOOD made in a solar cooker here - and btw the solar cooker I am using is from India designed and developed at the Ghandi Ashram in Ahmadabad, India - Maybe in interesting partner for Panasonic (read full article here).

Well believe it or not - Ricemilk is easier to make than going to the supermarket to buy it. If you drink soyamilk or ricemilk or any other nut or grain based milk then STOP buying it but do it yourself instead - it can contribute to the savings of tons of trees and many other resources + its far more healthy than drinking that old and most often seriously treated substances that they sell in these very problematic Tetra Pack composite packaging.

What’s in store for humankind? Planet Earth? Get the predictions according to the World Future Society. Each year, the WFS releases a report forecasting major global developments for the coming year and beyond.

Since 1985, editors of THE FUTURIST have selected the most thought-provoking ideas and forecasts featured in the magazine for their annual Outlook report. Over the years, Outlook has spotlighted the emergence of such epochal developments as the Internet, virtual reality, and the end of the Cold War. Visit The World Future Society’s Web site, publishers of THE FUTURIST magazine.

1. Everything you say and do will be recorded by 2030

By the late 2010s, ubiquitous, unseen nanodevices will provide seamless communication and surveillance among all people everywhere. Humans will have nanoimplants, facilitating interaction in an omnipresent network. Everyone will have a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address. Since nano storage capacity is almost limitless, all conversation and activity will be recorded and recoverable.

2. Bioviolence will become a greater threat as the technology becomes more accessible

Emerging scientific disciplines (notably genomics, nanotechnology and other microsciences) could pave the way for a bioattack. Bacteria and viruses could be altered to increase their lethality or to evade antibiotic treatment. Another long-term risk comes from nanopollution fallout from warfare. Nanoparticles could potentially cause new diseases with unusual and difficult-to-treat symptoms, and they could inflict damage far beyond the traditional battlefield, even affecting future generations.

3. The car’s days as king of the road may soon be over

More powerful wireless communication that reduces demand for travel, flying delivery drones that replace trucks, and restrictions on vehicle ownership are among the developments that could thwart the automobile’s historic cultural dominance and environmental impact. If current trends were to continue, the world would have to make way for a total of 3 billion vehicles on the road by 2025.

4. Careers, and their preparatory university degrees, are becoming more specialized

An increase in unusual degrees may foretell the growth of unique new career specialties. Instead of simply studying for a business degree, more students are beginning to explore niche subjects such as sustainable business, strategic intelligence and entrepreneurship. Unusual majors in the US that are capturing students’ imaginations include neuroscience and nanotechnology, computer and digital forensics, and comic book art. Scoff not: The market for comic books and graphic novels in the US has grown 12 per cent since 2006.

5. There may not be world law in the foreseeable future, but the world’s legal systems will be networked

The Global Legal Information Network, a database of local and national laws for more than 50 participating countries, will grow to include more than 100 countries by 2010. The database will lay the groundwork for a more universal understanding of the diversity of laws between nations and will create new opportunities for peace and international partnership.

6. Professional knowledge will become obsolete almost as quickly as it’s acquired

An individual’s professional knowledge is becoming outdated at a much faster rate than ever before. Most professions will require continuous instruction and retraining. Rapid changes in the job market and work-related technologies will necessitate job education for almost every worker. At any given moment, a substantial portion of the labour force will be in job retraining programmes.

7. The race for biomedical and genetic enhancement will be what the space race was in the 20th century

Humanity is ready to pursue biomedical and genetic enhancement, says UCLA professor Gregory Stock. The money is already being invested, but, he says, “We’ll also fret about these things—because we’re human, and it’s what we do.”

8. Urbanization will hit 60 per cent by 2030

As more of the world’s population lives in cities, rapid development to accommodate them will make existing environmental and socioeconomic problems worse. Epidemics will be more common due to crowded dwelling units and poor sanitation. Global warming may accelerate due to higher carbon dioxide output and loss of carbon-absorbing plants.

9. The Middle East will become more secular while religious influence in China will grow

Popular support for religious government is declining in places like Iraq, according to a University of Michigan study. The researchers report that in 2004 only a quarter of respondents polled believed that Iraq would be a better place if religion and politics were separated. By 2007, that proportion was one-third. Separate reports indicate that religion in China will likely increase as an indirect result of economic activity and globalization.

10. Access to electricity will reach 83 per cent of the world by 2030

Electrification has expanded around the world, from 40 per cent connected in 1970 to 73 per cent in 2000, and may reach 83 per cent of the world’s people by 2030. Electricity is fundamental to raising living standards and access to the world’s products and services. Impoverished areas such as sub-Saharan Africa still have low rates of electrification; for instance, Uganda is just 3.7 per cent electrified.

We all know it - “flush and forget” - we need to turn it into “Flush & Remember” - how can we design activities and acts that makes us understand that waste does NOT exist - everything is a resource, nothing EVER is waste - or should we say should or rathar CANT be. We need to redefine our view on how we manage our resources - all of them - even our own “left-overs”.

This video is the part 1 and 2 of maybe 10 more on same project - the ultimate composting toilet experience - and this film just shows some initial experimentation, just you wait and see the final result.
This is acording to writer Adam Hart-Davis from the UK what people said to the men who were sailing urine to be made into alum (to be used for color fixation) in the UK in the 1600. Urine has been used for numerous purposes - and should if you ask me be again. Adam Hart-Davis has written some very interesting and entertaining articles about urine and feces - please click here to read more.

DIVINE FOOD - NEW FOODS - or rather food is DIVINE - or its like being in heaven indulging in DIVINE FOOD….and the whole thing about eating does not takes up a lot of time for me here on MMM - and yet it does. The intention with the little blog here on NEW FOODS - DIVINE EATING is purely to inspire you yourself to start exploring what you eat. Eating is obviously not just about food, but about life - if we dont eat we die….I personally believe that if we dont eat with respect and beautifully then we uptain the important matters from the food we eat in ways that might harm more than it helps.

Food is such an essential element in our life and therefore its also something I think we need to deal with - every day - in a appropriate ways - NOW and whats that…well see here and maybe you get ideas to how you can eat less (which all in all is good - just dont starve), more green, MORE RAW (which should be as local as possible and grown with as big respect for nature as possible), more creatively and beautiful (which is part of the importance of “ENJOYING LIFE”), more improvised (which is all about daring to experiment every day in life - we need to explore life in all its aspects - also in terms of food - creative cooking without recipees is highly recommendable to enhance your ……well what do you think?????) …and many other issues - this is NOT a cooking blog, but hopefully inspirational hints about how to live a better life, for less, with less and MORE EXITING….

As one of the many activities there is to do here at MMM is of course gardening - and the DREAMS are BIG. I want to create a paradise here where nature and culture thrives - and I want to write and do more videos about the considerations and experiments happening here at MMM. This posting on the EXDL blog will be dedicated to the development of the MMM Gardens and micro farming.

The first video to be posted here is about the actual design of the kitchen garden - a garden for lazy people..or maybe busy, BUT also gardening about having a pact with the system around - as in nature, the plants, the earth, the water etc…see some of the considerations here.

MMM waterfall

Did you know that 70% of the earth surface is water and approximately 70 % of the human body consist of water. Water is one of the main elements for life on the planet. Without – read: CLEAN water - things could get rather grim. We actually know this and yet what do we do with water? Well we all know – and currently water is as so many other elements of the planet a bit out of balance due to our maybe not so appropriate use of it. There is perhaps nothing as important as the huge challenges we are facing when it comes to water. As all other elements we need to come to terms with our relationship with it. We need to treat it again as matter that’s as precious – or even more precious than gold. It is abundant but maybe too wild and mysterious to understand how we have managed to “influence it” in maybe not the best ways. Water is not dead or passive matter just floating in and around and everywhere us – it’s a beautiful amazing series of molecular structures which provides us with access to life as we know it here on the planet. Without clean water in todays and tomorrows world human life will stop to exist.

The challenge

We need to find more intelligent ways to live with water. Water dissolves more substances than anything else – but water has many more capacities, for remembering, for healing – some claim water has emotions and a kind of intelligence. Well for sure its smart and we could learn a lot from it – if we were listening and open enough as fx. Masuru Emoto (http://www.masaru-emoto.net/). Water is like all other natural elements needed to be seen as another collaborator – another living element - that helps and which as we do need care, love, and admiration. We need to re-establish a co-evolution with water – in all ways.
And as the Native Americans said: we do not own the water on this planet. We have to let it flow. We could also describe in a way that water needs to be considered and respected in equal ways as everything else that surrounds us . we all come from the same substances and we will all go back to the same forms. There is really not very much hocus pocus around that – its life as we know it here in this planet. And as animals, plants and the earth it self we all share life with water – in harmonious cycles – eternal cycles – water is really air – its every ones and no ones – its just essential matters for life.
Lets work with water in respect for what it is and what it brings us and lets try and develop some amazing concepts where we live with and show apriciation at the same time. As we are doing it with other projects here on MMM – lets try to be as pragmatic as possible and allow for communal inspiration and accept of each others diversities and needs – does it sound gaga, well then go Mr. Emotos site and read about what water is all about.

Micro Macro Monde project:

-Aqua Culture MMM

The MMM project to be developed during this MMM Future Camp is called AQUA CULTURE – and a real project will be developed at MMM where some of the spaces in the old watermill will be developed as a kind of public bathhouse or spa or a sacred place for working with water – just an AQUA CULTURE project – a possible public bath or water house of tomorrow.

- How to depart in appropriate ways - OR “six feet under”.

Intense days about how to developing life-cupboards as NPF defines this RSI-concept on how to design your own very personal space. An kind of furniture which is where you keep your most “precious things” as well as “personal objects” etc. but its also a piece of furniture that you live with – and transform with – its possibly a coffin but for sure its your life rider cabinet. Come and build this unique object – and take it home (at your own cost - and materials are NOT included unless its scrap from the MMM re-resource centre).
